“To the Mason Jar”

glassI visited a friend today.  She served me lunch – a warm bowl of homemade chicken noodle soup with a side of salad.  It was heavenly.  And when she brought out water inside an old mason jar, I was completely taken back.  It was ADORable!  And so full of character.  And apparently, I’m the last to know they can be used as drinking glasses!

When I read 31 ways to use a Mason Jar, and Mason Jar Love!, I was completely sold on  embracing the mason jar to hold water.  I went out and purchased the Ball wide mouth, 16-oz jar (perfect size to hand wash) at a local grocery store.  And I LOVE that they’re Made in the USA.  Bonus!

I recently found BPA-free, plastic lids at ACE Hardware.  A box of 8 for $3.99.  I plan on using them to make this jar a portable water bottle.  Very happy!

  1. The Mason Jar, I believe, is part of America’s heritage and glad it’s made in the USA. It can be used for many things besides canning and makes great storage containers for rice, beans and even bulk size spices and of course, drinking glasses.

    • Love it! :D I’ve used mason jars in the past but only for decorating (collecting sand) and never saw it’s potential beyond that (I’ve never canned). I just bought a pack of 12 jars last night. So excited to use them! Thanks Mary for the great comment. :)
