Color Flow… a decorating idea

I love decorating but creating smooth Color Flow has been a problem for me – mainly because I like color, ADORE fabric, and have a hard time picking a favorite.  So after purchasing different ‘favorites’, I’d come home to find no coherence.  But I found a tool to help!First, some important thoughts on Color Flow:

Limiting your home decorating palette to between three and five colors creates strong coherence in the flow of space“. – Janet Beal

A “how to” thought on Color Flow that saved not only my pocketbook but guided me in the right direction:

Take the color chip you have chosen for your kitchen or bathroom and if you could make it into a toss cushion and it would happily sit in your living room without looking completely bad or wrong, it’s probably a good color for your kitchen”. -Maria Killam.com

So here’s the novel idea (thanks to Pinterest)….  You can take a photo of your favorite fabric, painting, area rug, and download it onto Sherwin-William’s “Chip It” site and they’ll create a color palette for you – making the task of creating a color scheme, a cinch.  The site requires that you add “Chip It” to your Bookmark bar and then the program will start.

Here are the inspiration images I downloaded, and the results:

Next, take those paint chips with you when you’re out and about.  You can tape them to a single sheet of paper or keep them in your wallet.  When looking at a potential home decor item, ask yourself, ‘does this match the chips?’  If it doesn’t, part ways with ease because you’re now mastering Color Flow.
